The City of Owosso is utilizing a grant awarded by MSHDA to help make

exterior improvements to owner-occupied homes

OWOSSO, MICH. – The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) recently awarded the City of Owosso a $75,000 grant to provide assistance in development projects set to enhance Owosso homes through its Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP).

The NEP helps communities throughout Michigan by providing funding assistance to complete high-impact development projects directly tied to stabilizing and improving the local area.

The City of Owosso will use these funds to provide grants to eligible home owners - up to $24,000 per home – to improve the exterior of their homes. Exterior improvements can include a new roof, siding, windows, doors or porches. Applicants must meet certain eligibility requirements based on need. The projects are anticipated to be completed by November 2023.

“We are very grateful to be awarded this grant,” said Nathan Henne, Owosso City Manager. “We look forward to working with local contractors and homeowners to make the most of it. Improving residential neighborhoods is an important goal for this city and we very much appreciate the folks at MSHDA offering their help to accomplish that goal.”

NEP grants require that the projects and activities align with one or more of three core components including: housing enhancements; neighborhood beautification; and/or neighborhood public amenity enhancements.

The City of Owosso received these funds as part of a greater $2 million award by MSHDA for projects that impact communities across the state.

“We are pleased to offer our support to the City of Owosso as it works to improve and beautify the residential community,” said Gary Heidel, acting executive director of MSHDA. “The NEP’s purpose is to improve the quality of life for local residents through impactful development projects. We look forward to witnessing the positive changes that will result from this partnership.”
