The City of Owosso is observing Drinking Water Week by recognizing the vital role tap water plays in daily life, the infrastructure that is required to carry it to and from homes and businesses, and the critical work that water professionals accomplish around the clock. These professionals, infrastructure, and the treatment process allow for tap water to be there when you need it and are an essential part of our daily lives.

Owosso’s first water treatment plant was built in 1895. It was a pumping station and storage tank capable of holding 275,000 gallons of water. The current Water Plant was constructed in the 1930s and has undergone many improvements over the years. Today, eight employees work 24/7 to ensure safe drinking water for our residents. In 2020, Owosso and neighboring communities use 1.652 million gallons of water a day, for 603.146 million gallons a year. This water comes from five active wells, each over 80 feet deep.
