Department Overview

The City of Owosso Building Department oversees zoning and construction to make certain that the State of Michigan and City of Owosso codes are in compliance which insures  public safety.   This department issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits and provides inspection services when requested.

Charles P. Rau is the Building Official and Zoning Administrator.  He performs zoning compliance, plan review, structural analysis and code enforcement.  Gary Palmer does the inspections for the electrical permits.  Merle West performs the plumbing and mechanical inspections for the city on Mondays and Wednesdays.  All inspections can be scheduled by calling the building department at (989) 725-0535.  This phone number also has voice messaging.
