Press Release
NOVEMBER 8, 2005 ELECTION
Date: October 6, 2005
Attention: City of Owosso
registered voters
From: Gail L. Schultz,
Owosso City Clerk
The City of Owosso
will be conducting an election on Tuesday, November 8th to
elect four (4) Council members and to consider a millage question
related to Holman Pool.
Copies of sample
ballots for the different City of Owosso precincts will be posted at
Owosso City Hall and also will be available for review at the Owosso
Branch of Shiawassee District Library and on the City’s website at
www.ci.owosso.mi.us.
Prior to heading to the polls on
Election Day, you may wish to verify that your voter registration is
current and where your polling place is located. An easy way to check
your voter registration status and the location of your polling place is
to go to the Michigan Secretary of State’s website at
www.michigan.gov/vote. Just by entering your name, you will be
able to find out if you are registered to vote and where you should go
to vote. If this site is unavailable or you do not have access to the
Internet, please contact the Owosso City Clerk’s office at (989)
725-0500 to verify your registration and polling place location. If you
need to contact the City Clerk’s office to verify your status and
polling location, we encourage you to do this prior to Election Day. We
want to make sure that your questions get answered in time for you to
vote.
A few additional
things to remember:
1) State Election Law requires
that your driver’s license or state issued ID address match your voter
registration address. For example, you can’t have a
Flint
address on your driver’s license and register to vote in Owosso. Any
time you move and change your driver’s license address – this activity
changes your voter registration address.
2) The deadline for
registering to vote for the November 8th election is October 11th.
Anyone who registers to vote after that date will not be eligible to
vote in the November 8th election.
If you have recently registered for the
first time or changed your voter registration information, make sure
that you keep your registration receipt from the local clerk or
Secretary of State’s office. This receipt shows when you registered to
vote or made a change and serves as your proof of registration until you
receive a new Voter ID card from the local clerk. You are encouraged to
have current picture identification with you when you go to vote.
3) Absent Voter Ballots will be
available starting Monday, October 10th. The Owosso City Clerk’s office
is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The office will
also be open on Saturday, November 5th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for
persons wishing to obtain absent voter ballots. State Election Law does
not allow the City Clerk to send ballots out of the office after 2 p.m.
on the 5th.
If you have any
questions, please contact our office at (989) 725-0500.
